Bringing Downtown Brooklyn to Florida Fashion #urbanchic – Let There Be Autumn & Family Reunion

Two things I'm grateful for today:

1. It finally feels like Fall in Florida[!] and

2. I got to hang out with my brother and his girlfriend – both of whom I haven't seen since last May!

This meant... enthusiastically digging through my sunny-weather Floridian closet to find pieces suitable for this sudden change in season: comfy medium-weight jackets, thicker jeans, and long sleeve shirts.

Here's what I whipped up as a last minute, Fall inspired outfit for our double date!

This styling evokes Brooklyn's urban chic with a twist – a marriage of Everlane's timeless basics with Free People's effortless bohemian, vibrant, and cozy vibe.

This vintage jacket was the launching point that helped inform the rest of today's outfit. It's 100% cotton, handmade in India, and has these bold patterns of earthen colors that remind me of Native American textiles. It's perfectly cropped at the waist, suited for a petite gal like me, which helps gives the illusion of elongated legs.

Next, this oversized shirt was a recent find from my husband's closet [wink]. I love how this shirt helps elevate my look from a relaxed boho-casual to dressy-casual. The interesting collar detail, the lightweight and silky drape of the fabric, and the perfectly sized wrists helps this shirt fit effortlessly into my more feminine wardrobe.

For my up-do, I wanted to create a romantic and soft frame around the front of the face, to pair with elegant pearl earrings, while still keeping a messy-chic bohemian feel. I took 2 loose braids and rolled them up into cinnamon buns. A handful of hair-pins were used to hold them in place.

To continue the elevated messy-chic-boho theme, I put on my "Jess Slingback Mules" by Madewell. These soft leather shoes with a foot securing back-strap are comfortable for long walks and have been the perfect transition shoes for Fall into Winter. The pointed toe makes them feel slightly more dressy than rounded toed shoes, and the neutral skin-like shade helps elongate my legs!

Last but not least, the pantalones: I absolutely adore these "Ultra High Rise Mom Jeans" from Abercrombie. They're the "tough" kind-a jeans that are extra thiiick, and super durable – made with non stretchy fabric. I find the hardy texture of these jeans is exponentially better at keeping me warm than the stretchy/jegging types. Also, as a bonus, the light wash fade of these jeans paired with the off white/cream colored top helped to vertically elongate my body.
