Travel & Fashion – How To Curate the Perfect Outfit Using A Capsule Wardrobe

I really enjoyed the challenge of creating a capsule wardrobe for our recent vacation on the West Coast

A capsule wardrobe is a fashion philosophy and a way of simplifying one’s closet by selecting only a couple items of clothing and wearing them in differing variations for maximum use. It sets healthy boundaries for consumption/shopping and also allows for the individual to be creative in layering and matching the minimal items at hand.

With only one carry-on and a personal item allowed for domestic flights nowadays, a trip is the perfect opportunity to try out your capsuling skills!

For our trip to the City of Angels, I went for a grown-up, edgy, and artsy vibe and recycled the same utility jacket in many of my looks. To go with the utility jacket, I ended up packing a leather skirt, ankle boots, some fur, knitted or textured blacks, and gold jewelry.

Especially for the days when we anticipated long drives, I made sure to pack some super comfortable bottoms. See how stretchy these polka dot black jeans are?

BTW, we found this Korean Monument in L.A.! Looks like I'm in a different country, right!?

Do you have a foolproof little-black-dress?

I think everyone should invest in a classic-black-jumpsuit and have it handy. A simple jumpsuit in a neutral color and contemporary design matches with everything! Just throw on some heels to dress it up or pair a utility jacket for a more casual look. See what I mean, in terms of versatility?

We hit up a couple different climates and elevations in one trip – from 7,000 feet in the Sierra Nevada all the way down again to 282 feet below sea level in Death Valley. Which meant, that we had to be prepped for hot, cool AND cold temperatures in one packing. Not an easy feat...

We ended up bringing layers of warm accessories like light scarves, hats, knitted shorts, and compact jackets.

If you take a look at the photo below, you might be notice that I'm wearing a down jacket under my utility jacket and also a light, silk neck scarf. The puffy jacket, from UNIQLO, fits into a sandwich zip-lock sized pouch. Its compactness was perfect for a trip like this one!

Any fun trips comin' your way?

My hubbie and I are planning a loooong trip to Australia and New Zealand this summer and couldn't be more excited.

Also, check out more photos from our trip to L.A. here!
