Lani Naturals' "The Works" Gift Set – Part I

Bright and colorful on the outside, and lush and sweetly smelling on the inside, Lani Naturals is an all-natural, non-toxic, vegan and cruelty-free brand with products for many of your self-care needs, including hair, body, and face.

"My interest in cruelty-free, vegan and natural products started after I made the transition to a vegan lifestyle in 2013. I became more conscious of what I was putting on my skin and hair and no longer wanted to use products with unrecognizable ingredients that may have also been tested on animals."

The Works Gift Set

One box to bind them all.... [Do I have any Lord of the Rings lovers? hehe]

"The Works" gift set by Lani Naturals comes with five full sized products for a little over $110. The fun thing about this gift set is that you can customize your box by swapping in a mask & serum of your choice.

My gift set came with the:
  • Tropical Hair Treatment
  • Tropical Super Serum
  • Tropical Body Treatment
  • Tropical Coconut Face Polish
  • Tropical Cacao Detox Mask

All five of these products are 100% natural, and are intended to bring nourishment to the face, body and hair. They smell enticingly delicate, of creamy coconut and lush dark chocolate, a tropical island vacation or a relaxing and candlelit evening in.

Tropical Cacao Detox Mask

Licking my lips for this clarifying mask that not only benefits the skin but is a delight to the senses.

The Tropical Cacao Detox Mask smells like a fountain of warm and creamy melting chocolate and I especially enjoy masking with this, as a finishing touch to a long day – like a sweet dessert.

I like to keep things simple with this particular mask. Instead of adding yogurt, honey, or serums, this mask only needs just enough water for the dry powder to easily transform into a mousse-like/whipped consistency. The baking soda in this formula definitely helps with fluffing process and makes the spreading of the mask on the skin something to look forward to.

To avoid skin-pulling and tautness as the mask dries I mist with distilled aloe vera water throughout the masking session. And personally, 15mins felt like the perfect amount of time for the mask to brew on the skin before rinsing it off.

As is the case for many clay-based masks, this one – formulated with pastel pink & beige Australian clay – draws out impurities from deep within the skin's pores, absorbing excess oils in hard to reach places without drying out the skin. This mask also has coconut milk powder [nourish], vitamin C [brighten], aloe vera powder [calm] and tumeric [heal].

I don't enjoy thick and heavy face masks that make me feel like I'm slathering globs of mud on my face. And I appreciate that Lani Naturals took the time to formulate a mask that would hide the fact that, when we're masking, we're pretty much putting glorified dirt on our faces – for its many benefits, of course.

Simplified List of Ingredients: Pastel Pink Australian Clay, Beige Australian Clay, Coconut Milk Powder, Cocoa Powder,* Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C), Sodium Bicarbonate, Coconut Water,* Aloe Aloe Vera Powder,* Turmeric* [*Organic]

Tropical Hair Treatment

I’m a huge lover of all things masking but never did it occur to me to regularly mask my hair until most recently. I’m telling you – it’s been a game changer! My locks have never felt this soft, smooth, supple and silky on a daily, weekly, monthly [consistent] basis. Also, my scalp feels balanced [neither oily or dry] – resulting in my strands feeling smooth and healthy, and looking clean for a longer period of time after each wash. If you've never considered masking your hair – I highly recommend you give it a try.

Twist off the top of Lani Naturals' Tropical Hair Treatment and it smells like you’ve cracked open a fresh coconut on a tropical island – subtly coconutty and sweeeet! It's formulated with four natural, food grade oils - Camellia seed oil, [Organic] Coconut oil, Kukui nut oil, and Macadamia nut oil. The vitamins and fatty acids in this oil-blend penetrate into each strand of hair to deep condition and to help revive dry, damaged locks.

There are several ways to go about using this particular hair treatment. It can be applied as a frizz taming serum after shampooing and conditioning but I’ve found it most helpful to use as a wash-off mask about twice every 10 days. When I know I’ll have a block of time at home, I’ll leave this Lani's Hair Treatment in for about 3-4 or more hours for the oils to soak in. Then I’ll wash it off with shampoo to remove the oils completely.

P.S. You can also draw your hair back into a sleek bun and leave this treatment mask in your locks to "do its thing[!]" the entire day.

Some more tips – I avoid getting the Tropical Hair Treatment around my hairline and face and actually prefer using lighter oils [like jojoba or argon] on my scalp. I apply Lani's hair treatment more generously on the ends and massage less of it near the roots. I haven't run into any problems, yet, but it may be helpful to know that, in general, coconut oil, due to its higher comedogenic levels, may cause breakouts for some.

Also, I am extra diligent about washing my hair thoroughly after each masking session. Most of the time I'll even shampoo twice. If I don't take the extra care to double shampoo, my scalp & strands have felt a little greasy the next day.

As is true for all things skin related, everyone's hair and scalp is different and has varying needs. I don't know if this product would have the same results for you as it did for me. Coconut oil has been said to work for some hair types but has caused brittleness in others. I'd recommend a small patch test to see how ANY hair oils react to your skin and strands before taking the plunge.

With that being said, whether it's this particular Tropical Hair Treatment by Lani or another all-natural hair oil product, I highly encourage you to try masking your hair at home for a boost of hair conditioning. In all honesty, my locks have never looked or felt this good!
