Cold Weather Essentials - How to Rock a Bath Session

Tell me honestly, what do you think about baths? Love them? Could do without them?

I never regret taking a bath - as I can never recreate the feeling of total physical relaxation without a good soak with some bath salts and aromatic essential oils. And not only is it good for muscular relaxation but it seems to have wonderful benefits for my skin - opening and purifying my pores while sweating out toxins in the body. When I step out of the tub I'm walking on Cloud 9.

But at the same time, I could go months without taking one - perhaps even going out of my way to avoid them. When productivity is my motto, putting my electronics away and slowing down for a bath session is not easy for me. Have you tried being alone with your thoughts for a good 40 minutes? Is boredom a practiced art in your weekly to-do list?

If you feel like a cell-phone running out of battery juice, a bath can be the perfect setting to recharge on so many levels - mind, body, and spirit.

You've probably got this down, but, just in case - here are a couple quick tips to "rock" a bath session and some natural products to inspire the relaxation in you!

  • Start with a clean tub - I know this is the last thing you might want to do at the end of a long day but you can prevent breakouts and avoid getting bacteria in all the hard to reach places by taking this first step.
  • H2O - During and after your soak, drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.
  • Stretch - if you're active like me and have tightness in your back or legs, take this opportunity to stretch while your muscles while they're warm and supple.
  • Exfoliate - during or directly after a bath is the perfect time to use a gentle body and face exfoliator to slew off dead skin cells.
  • Pair your bath with a hydrating mask - after a bath and exfoliating - when your pores are wide open and squeaky clean - is an ideal time to sheet mask or to slather on your favorite hydrating mask!
