"The Harmony of Countermatch" - Review of Beautycounter's Hydrating Skin Care Collection

Yin and Yang - balanced - one with nature - the smell of freshly dug up earth - calm inner peace - harmony - those are phrases that flow into mind when describing Beautycounter's Countermatch Collection. This deeply hydrating skin-care line gives a spa like experience - poetic and gentle in its approach in healing and protecting the skin. Organic in concept with ingredients tested for safety, this line addresses our skin's core needs of hydration, nutrition, and oxygenation by using the beneficial properties of plants.

Pure Calm Cleansing Milk

Experience: The Pure Calm Cleansing Milk is massaged onto a dry face then rinsed off with warm water. The blend of three oils gently cleanses without stripping the skin of its natural oils. The coconut oil gently releases make-up and impurities as it's massaged into the skin, the plum oil protects by sealing in moisture, while the jojoba seed oil soothes and hydrates.

Performance: I'm slowing moving away from the habit of thinking that "squeaky clean" is the only indicator of clean skin. After having used this cleanser, you many notice that some of the oils in the formula do remain on the face even after having rinsed with water - this is normal and beneficial. The oils will continue to hydrate and mask on your skin even after the wash. And to test if I had truly removed all of my daily's worth of dirt and make-up, I went over my face one more time with an all natural make-up wipe. And lo and behold, the wipe looked newly white - proving the effectiveness of the milk cleanser's purifying power!

Recommendation: I rate this cleanser 3 out of 5 stars. This cleanser is goof for those with normal to dry skin and for those with older, aging skin - as the oils will help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. But if you have oily or acne prone skin, the coconut oil in the formula may clog your pores and cause irritation - the Charcoal Bar  is a better option for you. I personally prefer the Cleansing Balm to remove make-up and use the Rejuvenating Face Cleanser as my go-to daily cleanser.

Intense Moisture Serum & Eye Rescue Cream

Experience: The Intense Moisture Serum is a thin liquid substance that packs in high concentrations of "the good stuff" - vitamin C, arginine, and hyaluronic acid - to be absorbed into the skin quickly. It's most helpful in addressing specific skin concerns like reducing the appearance of fine lines, evening out skin tone, and firming up the skin.

The Eye Rescue Cream works in a similar way. This lightweight cream is applied delicately on the eye-lid and under the eyes [targeting the dark circle areas] to firm up the skin and retain its smooth appearance. Even if you have perfect skin currently, without any fine lines or loss of collagen, it is important to start applying eye cream as early as your twenties to  maintain the health of your eyelid skin.

Performance: In an ideal world, we could have radiant, baby-like skin with just a single moisturizer. But in reality, as my skin gets older, I'm realizing the need of products such as these to supplement my skin care routine. It's similar to taking a daily multi-vitamin in addition to a healthy diet to maintain good health. This serum and eye cream injects high quality, healing and protective ingredients directly onto your skin to be absorbed quickly to boost the effects of a day/night-time moisturizer.

Recommendation: I rate these products 3.5 out of 5 stars. Although I enjoy using these products and feel the hydrating benefits of both, I also feel that they are secondary and are optional. If you have fairly good skin without problems, or just don't want to bother with extra products, I would recommend starting with the moisture lotions from the Countermatch Line.

Adaptive Moisture Lotion & Recovery Sleeping Cream

Five stars out of five, the Recovery Sleeping Cream is my absolute favorite. I use this moisturizer in the morning and also at night after washing and it is ultra hydrating for my normal to dry, aging skin. I live in Florida where its hot and humid most of the year but this cream is not overbearing, greasy or heavy as I've found other evening creams to be. And on those late-nights when I don't feel like putting on eye cream - I'll even take a small drop of this and pat it around the eye area for a similar effect. And in the evenings, I'll supplement the Recovery Sleeping Cream with a drop of the Brightening Facial Oil  and/or put on the Cleansing Balm as an replenishing overnight mask.

The Adaptive Moisture Lotion is a lightweight sister of the Sleeping Cream. This face lotion works in a similar way to the night cream in its hydrating properties and is a good option for those with oily, acne prone, and younger skin.

All in all, I rate this skin care line a 4 out of 5. I enjoy using the Countermatch Collection and I'm starting to see a difference in my skin from its hydrating and anti-aging benefits but I didn't love the cleanser and I don't find the eye cream and serum completely necessary. That being said, I highly recommend the night cream and the daytime lotion!
