Foundation Series - Beautycounter’s Tint Skin & Dew Skin - Which one should you buy?

Wondering whether to try Beautycounter's Tint Skin or the Dew Skin? Let's take a look at each product, comparing how they perform and find the one that best fits your needs!

Tint Skin Hydrating Foundation

Bejeweled in Beautycounter's Tint Skin Foundation

I can't say enough about how much I enjoy using this liquid foundation from Beautycounter. This is my go-to summertime foundation for a youthful glow!

Available in ten shades, Linen matches my warmer undertone and surface skin color to-a-T. The lightweight formula is easy to apply, has buildable and long lasting coverage, and seamlessly hides my skin's imperfections while still leaving my face looking naturally fresh and healthy all day long. It looks like my bare skin, except better. What more could a gal ask for?

Retailed at $42 a pop and close to almost $50 with tax, it can seem like an investment. But really, you only need a pea sized amount of product per use for effortless coverage and the tube lasts several months even with daily use. I haven't been been able to pinpoint if it is, in fact, the Tint Skin that's doing it, but the formula is infused with sodium hyaluronate which is said to promote smoother-looking skin and also to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. I don't know about you, but I can use all the help I can get in that area!

Can you tell that I adore the Tint Skin?! I'm wearing the 2nd lightest shade, Linen

If you're a hardcore powder foundation user, I know how you feel. I stuck with pressed powder formulas for over a decade and even thinking about switching to liquid seemed intimidating at the time. But I've found that a liquid/cream foundation is the only way to recreate the oh-so-natural appearance of bare skin. So if you're feeling extra adventurous one day and want to take the leap, give Beautycounter's Tint Skin a try.

Dew Skin Moisturizing Coverage

The Dew Skin has been getting a lot of attention lately in prominent beauty and fashion magazines and I was eager to test this product myself to see what all the hype is about. Here's what I discovered.

Not to be confused with foundation, the Dew Skin is a glorified tinted moisturizer with SPF 20 in five shades - comparable to a BB cream. It applies almost sheer and offers very little coverage. If you are looking for a product to conceal skin conditions such as eczema, acne, capillary veins and/or rosacea, a foundation such as the Tint Skin or even Well People's Bio Tint Multi-Action Moisturizer SPF 30 is a better option. But, if you're blessed with a beautifully clear and perfect complexion, this product will work wonderfully for you. The formula is infused with "black currant, peony flower root extract, and vitamin C to enhance skin brightness and sodium hyaluronate to promote firmer, smoother-looking skin."

In this photo I'm wearing the Dew Skin in Shade No. 1

Retailed at $45 per 40ml tube, the Dew Skin leans on the more expensive side, even compared to other products in the clean beauty world. A similar BB cream by Juice Beauty which has higher SPF, and a third more product than Beautycounter, sells for $32.

That being said, the Dew Skin moisturizer glides on lush and creamy, leaving my [typically dry] face feeling hydrated, dewy, and healthy. I find that I like to use it on a more regular basis than the other tinted moisturizers that I've tried so far. I wear it frequently for informal errands around town and for casual outdoor activities when I don't feel like wearing a heavy face of makeup.

Concluding Thoughts

These two products from Beautycounter perform excellently and are meant to be used for two separate purposes - one to moisturize and sunscreen while the other provides seamless coverage. If you wanted to, you could use both the Dew Skin as a primer and the Tint Skin as foundation.

What's my recommendation? Let's just say that I already have a backup tube of the Tint Skin ready to go. [wink]
